【Today’s Event】Open-air cinema screening for one night only at the former gas station site in Ikejiri, Tokyo.

a platform called "DDAA LAB," which independently conducts unique research and experimental design centered around architecture, and a collective called "Terrain," which aims for a harmonious coexistence of food, nature, people, and culture, will host a one-night-only film night titled 'Ikejiri Service Station Film Night: Roadside Landscape' on September 6, 2026, with free admission.

The venue is the former gas station site in front of Ikejiri Ohashi Station on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line (3-15-1 Higashiyama, Meguro-ku, Tokyo). This site is set to be reborn as a complex spot next autumn.

For the limited two weeks leading up to September 12, 2026, before extensive renovation work begins, various events crossing different cultures are planned, staged in a space that retains the memories of the gas station, including the "Ikejiri Wart Fair" held last weekend.

On September 6, a special open-air cinema will appear. On that day, in addition to 'Powers of Ten' by Charles and Ray Eames, two other films will be screened: 'Visible Cities' by Babette Mangolt, which will be shown for the first time in Japan, and 'Chasing Houses' by Justin Time, totaling three works. Stands offering wine and coffee by "Massif" and "Overview Coffee," as well as light snacks, will also be open for cash-on purchases at the venue.

the area called "Ikejiri," which is said to have once had a large pond, was named for meaning the edge of that pond. An ancient road connected to the Tokaido runs through this area, where many people and goods have passed since ancient times.

As the 20th century saw the widespread use of automobiles, new spaces such as gas stations, motels, and drive-ins emerged along the roads. These shaped a unique cultural landscape known as "roadside" and have also served as settings for many films and visual works.

This project begins at this "former gas station," located beside a road where people have long been passing through and where cars used to refuel. It aims to trace the memories of roadside landscapes and mobility captured in films, reflecting on the traces left by automobile society on our cities and lives, as well as the activities surrounding "movement and settlement."
