【Golf】Home Putting Green!? A digital putting practice machine that just needs a smartphone placed on it

The day after a round, it’s common to think, “If only that putt had gone in.” If you can review that shot at home, you might be able to improve your score. With the digital putting practice machine "SmartPutt," you can enjoy realistic putting practice in a game-like setting.

As long as you have a smartphone and a dedicated mat, you can start right away!

The appeal of SmartPutt lies in the fact that it allows for digital practice using only your smartphone's camera without requiring any special sensors. Just set your smartphone on the dedicated stand and hit putts on the mat, and the system measures distance, speed, and angle through image recognition.

Since the mat itself is not an electronic device, there's no need to connect it to a power source, so you can spread it out wherever you like without worrying about the location of the outlet. It's compatible with both Android and iPhone, which means you can utilize an unused smartphone or tablet.

When connected to a smart TV or monitor, it feels like a home simulator on a big screen. The sensation of seeing your shots returned as numbers in an immersive environment similar to screen golf makes you want to take another shot.

The wide range of practice menus is also attractive. The green speed can be set from "slow" to "very fast," within a range of 2.4 to 3.6 meters. You can adjust it to match the course you're scheduled to play or your regular screen golf spot. In addition to practicing hitting at distances of 3m, 5m, 7m, and 10m, there's a "cup number calculation system" that allows you to set the number of cups from 1 to 9 based on distance, replicating the feel of screen golf practice. The 3D realistic slope lines that reproduce inclines to the left, right, and front, will help you develop your ability to read the green while looking at contour lines or colored topographic maps.

For those who want to take it a step further, there is a guide called the Golden Tempo of PGA Tour pros, which is 76-80 BPM (0.8 seconds stroke), allowing practice to acquire a consistent 2:1 rhythm. In a super-precise replay that reproduces the downswing trajectory just before impact on the screen, you can check the head wobble that is hard to notice by yourself. The practice results are recorded in data and graphs, revealing personal tendencies, such as "I tend to be stable at 5-7m, but slightly short to the left at 8-10m," which is quite interesting.

The game mode is also equipped. The stroke match play game can be played by up to 4 people, and there are also golf rules like bingo and KTX games that can be enjoyed even without golfing experience. While competing by looking at the scoreboard, the feel for putting naturally improves. On weekend nights, hosting a mini putting tournament with family or friends in the living room—such moments seem likely to become part of everyday life.

This model is a new version that has been improved based on user feedback. The ball stopper combines wood and memory foam, receiving balls steadily while suppressing hitting noise indoors. The stand can be adjusted between a height of 35-105cm (recommended at about 80cm), and it folds compactly for easy transportation. Left-handed players can use it by setting up the stand on the opposite side. A more recognizable red ball is also included, and practice can be done with standard white golf balls as well.
