【Disaster Prevention】What to do if the elevator suddenly stops? The minimum things you should have when going out.
The elevator emergency stop and entrapment incident that occurred last night at Tokyo Skytree. Many people may have found it difficult to sleep until they saw the news of the rescue. If the elevator were to stop suddenly due to an earthquake or a sudden error while you were on it... To prepare for such "what if" scenarios, it's reassuring to keep the minimum necessary disaster prevention gear in your bag.
At a minimum, I want to prepare: ① Water & food.
Many recent elevators are equipped with emergency kits, but some may lack them or have insufficient quantities… In case of such situations, it's reassuring to keep a minimum amount of water and non-perishable food in your bag. If you find 500ml bottles to be heavy, smaller capacity bottles in the 200ml to 300ml range, which can be purchased at convenience stores, are also recommended.
What the author has in their bag is Imuraya's "Eiyoukan." It's packed with energy, providing a convenient 171 kcal (equivalent to a small bowl of rice) with just one stick.
With an ideal shelf life of 5 years and 6 months for emergency storage, its appropriately soft texture and refreshing sweetness make it pleasant even for small children to eat.
At a minimum, I want to prepare a mobile battery.
A smartphone is essential for communication and information gathering with the outside world. To prevent battery depletion, it's advisable to carry a mobile battery as well. When purchasing, be sure to check the capacity, the number and type of USB ports, whether it supports fast charging, safety features, etc. Choose one that can be charged fully multiple times.
The minimum essentials to prepare ③ portable toilet
In case of a prolonged situation, having portable toilets for the number of people (for the family) brings peace of mind. Recently, there are models that can be used without a solidifying agent that do not smell even when used as is. Additionally, having a portable poncho and aluminum sheet will be helpful. They not only provide warmth during cold weather but also serve as a privacy barrier during toilet use.
The minimum preparations I'd like to make are ④ regular medications, a whistle, a light, etc.
For those who have regular medications, prepare 1 to 3 days' worth. It can be reassuring to have a whistle or light to alert those around you in case of an emergency outside of an elevator.
Additionally, there are various other items like coins and towels that you may want to prepare. First, imagine “what if” scenarios and review what belongings are essential for you.
