It shines even in seawater! With just water + salt, you can create light with the "Saltwater Capsule Light" for an experimental feel【Disaster Prevention】

Unlike a typical light that turns on when you press a switch, there is a somewhat mysterious and exciting light. The "Saltwater Capsule Light" generates electricity to power the LED when you add water and salt. A light that can easily be prepared with salt at any time is perfect for both outdoor activities and disaster prevention.

What is a seawater light that greatly lowers the hurdle for disaster prevention?

The author wondered, "What does it mean to generate electricity with water and salt...?" So I did a little research on the "saltwater capsule light."

It uses saltwater as an electrolyte and generates electricity by a reaction with the metal inside the main body (electrochemical generation by an aluminum air battery) to light up the LED. No batteries or charging are needed; simply adding saltwater when you want to use it starts the power generation, and once you're done using it, removing the saltwater stops the reaction. It feels like a fun science experiment!

The only things used for power generation are household salt and clean water. The recommended saltwater concentration is 1-10%, and you can use natural seawater or artificial seawater. The amount of salt doesn’t need to be measured precisely every time to light it up, making it easy to handle. It's also a nice point that, when outdoors for camping or fishing near the sea, you can use seawater directly.

It's a compact capsule shape (65×138mm, weight about 140g), so you can easily stash it in your bag and take it out. Adding a "light that shines with water and salt" to your usual outdoor activities makes the nighttime feel a little more special.

Battery-powered lights can sometimes cause concern when the batteries are running low, and rechargeable lights might make you worry about how much charge is left in them when you really need them. The saltwater capsule light is reassuring because it doesn’t require prior charging; you can create light with just water and salt. It proposes a new approach to disaster preparedness by suggesting to “keep salt on hand” in preparation for power outages and disasters. If you pre-pack a portion of salt into your emergency bag, you'll be able to use it immediately if needed.

The energy block is a consumable, and the main unit comes with one set (two pieces) already installed which can be replaced. After use, the electrolysis panel can be removed and cleaned, allowing for a pleasant experience next time. Why not try out this new light that combines playfulness and practicality?
