[With my beloved dog] I enjoyed a seaside walk and a shirasu bowl at the "Hiratsuka Sea Terrace" in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture
I visited the newly opened "Hiratsuka Sea Terrace." Hearing rumors that it's perfect for walking my dog in the seaside park, what was my impression after going there for the first time with my dog and friends?
A vast 2.4-hectare site where you can leisurely walk your beloved dog
The seaside park "Hiratsuka Sea Terrace," which just opened on October 31. The expansive 2.4-hectare area features a lawn plaza, sports fields, a seaside terrace, a marche building, and a BBQ restaurant building. It seems to be popular among dog lovers, as you can enjoy walks with your dogs while feeling the sea breeze at the adjacent beach.
There is also a dedicated parking lot, making it convenient to access by car. By the way, I stopped by during the daytime on a weekday, and the parking lot was about 80% full. When I asked the staff inside the facilities, they mentioned that it often gets full on weekends. During that time, it seems you'll need to use parking lots a bit further away, like the Shonan Coast Park parking lot.

As I took a stroll around Hiratsuka Sea Terrace, I found the sidewalks to be spacious, making walks with my dog very comfortable. There's nothing obstructing overhead, and an endlessly open sky spreads out above.
Many dog lovers gather here, and the sociable dogs seem delighted to greet each other.

As I progressed past the marche building and the BBQ restaurant Grill Pia, I discovered a grassy plaza. It seems that normally, people can picnic or enjoy walks with their dogs here, but on this day, it was closed to allow the grass to recover.
My keen-nosed dog seemed to notice the smell of the sea on the other side right away.

As I was hurried along by my beloved dog, I quickly moved forward...
My dogs stepped onto the sandy beach for the first time! What was their reaction?
Finally, the seaside spread out before us. We often come to the sea on weekends, but they had never walked on the sand, so they seemed bewildered by the unfamiliar sensation. They stood there for about a minute, but then, hesitantly, they started to walk slowly.
What I had imagined was their carefree frolicking at the water's edge, but the reality was quite cautious and subdued. Still, my dogs seemed to enjoy themselves at their own pace, stopping to sniff the breeze and digging into the sand at their feet.
The "shirasu-don" topped with fresh local shirasu is delicious.
After finishing our stroll by the seaside, my beloved dogs seemed satisfied after a good walk. Finally, it was time for the long-awaited meal for the owner! This time, I decided to try purchasing a take-out menu from a shop in the Marche building.
Unfortunately, my dogs couldn't enter the shop, so I decided to have them wait with a friend on the terrace next door. When I looked around, I noticed there were leash hooks on the wall. This is reassuring even if you come with your dog alone.
Inside the facility, there were a variety of shops, including a pork and egg specialty store and a takoyaki shop. Since we were in Shonan this time, we decided on the local specialty "shirasu-don"! According to the sign, it seems they use shirasu delivered directly from Hiratsuka fishing port, and it's one of their signature menu items.
I wanted to enjoy my meal while gazing at the sea in front of me, but during this season, the sea breeze is strong and can be quite cold. So, I decided to sit a little further away from the sea.
The take-out shirasu-don did not disappoint, being delicious beyond expectations. It is rich in the scent of the sea, and the freshness stands out. There’s a delicate sweetness that can be felt, and once you take the first bite, you just can’t stop.
Going out with my dogs inevitably reduces the variety of meals, but I feel happy to enjoy such delicious seafood.

Enjoying the horizon with my beloved dog on the observation terrace~ the joy of overlooking the mountains
Finally, I headed to the observation terrace that I had been curious about since my stroll. This terrace also serves as a tsunami evacuation facility when a tsunami warning is issued.
The view from the observation terrace is far more expansive than what I saw from the sandy beach! Since the weather was nice that day, I could see the horizon and the distant mountains all at once. Being able to thoroughly enjoy this breathtaking scenery with my dog is the greatest joy as a pet owner.
The "Hiratsuka Sea Terrace" has excellent access to popular spots like the Shonan Chigasaki Roadside Station and Enoshima. I definitely recommend stopping by together and savoring the charm of Shonan.
