On June 28, 2025, "HOBIE BASE MINAMISANRIKU" will grand open as a new base for water activities in Shizugawa Bay, Minamisanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture. This project was launched through a collaboration between Amuse, which develops comprehensive entertainment businesses, the general incorporated association Sustainability Center, and Minamisanriku Town.

As part of this initiative, the company is promoting the use of pedal kayaks "HOBIE" that do not use fuel. The "MIRAGE DRIVE," a pedal propulsion system developed by studying the wing movements of penguins, is adopted, making it a water activity that anyone can enjoy safely regardless of age or fitness level.

In this waterfront activity, you can experience the region's natural assets with all your senses using the foot-pedal kayak HOBIE. Additionally, it collaborates with the "Minami Sanriku Ocean Visitor Center," which serves as the core base of Rikuzentakata National Park. It also serves as a venue for practicing ecotourism and educational tourism.

What kind of place is the stage "Minami Sanriku Town, Shizugawa Bay"?

The stage, Shizugawa Bay, is part of the Sanriku Reconstruction National Park. It is registered as a "wetland of international importance as a habitat for waterbirds" under the Ramsar Convention, which protects wetlands. This rare natural environment, where cold and warm currents mix, is a highly biodiverse sea where both cold-water and warm-water creatures can be seen.

The mountain range surrounding Minami Sanriku Town serves as a kind of boundary for the town. Rain that falls in the town flows down rivers, incorporating nutrients from the forests and villages where people live, and pours into Shizugawa Bay, supporting a rich sea.
