【Local Recommendation】Rainy Day Lunch in Machida! Enjoying Curry from "Shikisai no Mori Nishi-en" inside the car

After pondering what to do for lunch on a rainy day, I visited "Shikisai no Mori Nishi-en (Welcome Gate)" in Machida City. I heard the curry here is delicious, so I went to eat with a friend who is a Machida resident. Reporting on the taste recommended by locals!

A park boasting the size of three Tokyo Domes for lunch

The other day, I stopped by with a friend who lives in Machida at "Machida Yakushiike Park Shikisai no Mori Nishi-en (Welcome Gate)." There are attractive facilities lined up, including a direct sales shop selling local ingredients, experience workshops, a grassy square, and cafes and restaurants, making it a popular spot. The whole Machida Yakushiike Park Shikisai no Mori boasts the size of three Tokyo Domes, making it perfect as a base for strolling.
I have also stopped by once when it first opened, and the area has expanded considerably. According to the official website, there are walking courses that can be explored in about an hour. Many dog owners were there, making it ideal for walking.
Spot name / Nishi-en (Welcome Gate)
Address / 3105 Honmachida, Machida City, Tokyo
Business hours / 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Today, takeout here!

Spot name / 44APARTMENT Yakushiike Store
Business hours / [Weekdays] 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM [Weekends and Holidays] 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM.
Right after the direct sales shop is the café and restaurant "44APARTMENT Yakushiike Store." This shop offers café menus using ingredients from Machida. I have stopped by several times at stores in the chain, and they are all stylish and delicious. According to my friend, "44APARTMENT Yakushiike Store" has delicious curry. Upon entering the shop, I could see the grassy square right behind through the large windows. It has a very open atmosphere.

While it’s tempting to relax and enjoy the food inside, this time I decided to take it out so I can fully enjoy spring!
What I ordered this time is the "Yakushi Pulled Chicken Curry (980 yen)." Pulled chicken refers to chicken breast that is slowly simmered and flavored with BBQ sauce. I thought it would be mixed in the curry, but it was generously placed on top of the rice. The curry is piping hot! I need to eat this quickly.
While I was taking pictures, it started to drizzle. There were benches with roofs, but they were already full with people who had pets. It looks like I have no choice but to eat in the car... Ah! That thing was in the car.

I could use that thing I bought at Daiso!

Product name / Car Steering Wheel Table
Price / 110 yen
Size / 30×19.2×1.5 cm.
That is the Daiso "Car Steering Wheel Table." Recently, I've been operating my laptop in the car more often, so I keep it handy.
It fits on the steering wheel better than I imagined! It’s stable, so I can eat the spilled curry with peace of mind. Although the size is small at 30×19.2×1.5 cm, it is sufficient to place a takeout tray on it.
When I took a bite, it was creamier than I expected. The spices are present, giving it a rich flavor. I'm relieved since I’m not good with spicy curry! There are also many side dishes like paprika, making it visually appealing. There was surprisingly a lot of rice too, which filled me up, even as a big eater.

Since it started to rain, I couldn't fully explore Nishi-en (Welcome Gate). I plan to stop by again this weekend to make up for this.
