[Sunday Morning Market] Enjoy a feast of tuna at "Misaki Morning Market" in Miura City, Kanagawa! There's no choice but to get up in the morning and go!
When you think, "I want to eat delicious tuna," you stretch your legs to the "Misaki Morning Market," which opens only on Sunday mornings near Misaki Fishing Port in Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The business hours are from 5:00 AM to 8:30 AM, which is a bit challenging for late risers, but there is still tuna that makes you want to go.
Set the alarm for 3:00 AM! Get in the car and head to the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula GO
I was supposed to set the alarm for 3 AM, but I woke up at 4:30 AM... The moment I opened my eyes, it felt like a fatal oversleeping, but I thought I could still make it from my house, so I got ready quickly and headed to Misaki.
Driving safely with a nervous feeling of "Will I make it?" Fortunately, the early morning roads were surprisingly smooth.
I arrived at the Misaki Morning Market at 6:30 AM. Because it was raining that day, the surroundings were just beginning to brighten up. I parked the car in the nearby free parking lot and headed straight to the Misaki Morning Market.
Usually, at this time, it should be more crowded, but perhaps because of the rain, the number of people is slightly calmer. This works in my favor! It seems I can enjoy the Misaki Morning Market at a leisurely pace.

In addition to many shops handling the main attraction, tuna, there are also shops selling fresh seafood, prepared foods, and freshly baked bread, making this a treasure trove of food. The lively voices unique to the morning market naturally lift the spirits. I'm glad to be able to take a good look at each product today.
First, today's goal was to head for the tuna restaurant. I headed straight for my favorite "Tuna Poke Bowl" (Miura Peninsula Product Fair - 900 yen), which I always eat when I come to the Misaki Morning Market! Since I arrived late, there was only a little left of the tuna poke bowl, and the tonjiru from the neighboring shop, which I usually buy together, was sold out.
Since it's a takeout style, I enjoyed the tuna poke bowl at a table inside the venue. Generously cut pieces of tuna are lavishly placed on top of vinegared rice.
As I took a bite... the rich flavor of the tuna spread throughout my mouth. The flesh was firm and had a nice crunch, which is precisely the freshness only found in the market. It’s marinated in soy sauce, making it a flavor that pairs well with the rice.
The toppings of sesame and chopped green onions also add a nice accent, providing a deliciousness that seeps into my body on this early morning.

After finishing the tuna poke bowl, my next target was a particularly bustling shop in the Misaki Morning Market. There were already about five groups in line. Although I had never experienced it before, it must have its charm to attract so many people. Without hesitation, I stepped into the end of the line.
Most people in line were buying the "Tuna Kakuni" (400 yen) from Kurobatei. Since they served it straight from the pot after ordering, it was piping hot! It was simmered with soy sauce and ginger, giving the tuna a sweet and savory flavor. It was so tender that it crumbled in my mouth, without a hint of dryness. The strong seasoning made it a flavor that left me wanting hot sake.
Finally, what I got was the "Ise Lobster Miso Soup" (600 yen) from Kaiwai Sakura-ya, lured by the steam. The rich broth from the Ise lobster seeps into my chilled body.
I received a recommendation for medium fatty tuna from the staff to take home as a souvenir
and decided to enjoy the excitement of market gourmet at home, purchasing fresh tuna as a souvenir from Yamatezu Tanaka Shoten. After all, Misaki is famous as the town of tuna. There were plenty of cuts and seasonings available, but this time I bought the medium fatty tuna recommended by the staff.
The volume of medium fatty tuna, which would likely cost around 2000 yen at the supermarket, was an incredible 1000 yen. They wrapped it with ice packs, so in winter, you can take it home even without a cooler.
You can feel the quality of the rich fat melting on your tongue, with taste and freshness surpassing expectations. This is why I can't resist the gourmet journey of Misaki!
The Misaki Morning Market will hold its annual year-end special sale for two days from December 29 to 30 (from 5 AM to 12 PM). In addition to supremely fresh tuna, they also offer freshly harvested vegetables and New Year’s goods. How about stopping by for year-end shopping?
