【Weekend Drive】A tour of Kanagawa's Hayama, where the sea, bread, and delicious food gather

Thinking about having lunch while gazing at the sea, I encountered an unexpected event. I decided to regroup and also check out "HAYAMA STATION," which is a bit inland.

When you come to Hayama, enjoy the view of the sea! Pleidor - Hayama Park

Hayama is conveniently located about an hour from the city center. This city has a relaxed atmosphere that my family has completely fallen in love with. While the Enoshima area often experiences heavy traffic, once we arrive in Hayama, the congestion eases a bit, allowing us to enjoy the drive itself more leisurely.
Speaking of Hayama, it is famously home to many excellent bakeries. Among the numerous renowned shops I've visited in Hayama, my top recommendation is "Bredor." Every type of bread is of high quality, and with such a wide variety, I never get tired of visiting.

Weekends and holidays 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Last order 3:00 PM)

Of course, when we come to Hayama, we want to see the sea. About a 5-minute drive from Pleidor, Kanagawa Prefectural Hayama Park offers a panoramic view of Isshiki Beach and is a refreshing spot. It is less crowded here, and time flows in a calm manner.

Normally, I stroll along the coast, but on this day, the waves were a bit rough, so instead of the sandy beach, I decided to sit on a bench in the grassy area and enjoy the bread I had just gotten.

PREDOR's "Caramel Croissant Melon Bread" (299 yen). Before eating, I thought about taking a commemorative photo... and in that moment, "Bang!" there was a sound, and the bread I was holding disappeared. My mind went blank for a moment, but when I looked up at the sky, there was a shadow soaring leisurely. It seems the culprit was a black kite.
The area around Hayama Park is the territory of black kites. Until now, I had always chosen to eat in places with roofs, but on this particular day, I completely forgot. Even though I was hungry, to have the bread I was looking forward to vanish...

To "HAYAMA STATION," where delicious things from Hayama gather

I thought about going back to PREDOR to buy more bread, but I decided to make a fresh start. I headed to "SHOPPING PLAZA HAYAMA STATION," which I had been curious about for a long time. This is a select shop where local famous stores gather, so to fill my empty stomach and heart, I went in search of something delicious.

Location: 1583-17 Nagara, Hayama Town, Miura District, Kanagawa Prefecture
Business hours: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Closed on: Wednesdays
Inside the store, in stark contrast to the tranquil Hayama Park, a lively and vibrant space was spread out. Fresh vegetables directly delivered from local farmers were lined up, and I discovered impressive Miura daikon that you wouldn't find in the nearby supermarkets.
By a twist of fate, Pre-Door was also set up at HAYAMA STATION. Unfortunately, the bread that was snatched by a black kite was sold out, but I managed to get the signature menu item, "Apple Pie" (441 yen).

The crispy pie was filled with generously cut apple pieces, and each bite blended the refreshing acidity of the fruit with the richness of butter. The disappointment from the black kite's attack was nowhere to be found. I felt my heart becoming softly fulfilled.
The line was formed at Asahiya Beef Shop, established in 1901. I decided to try the "Hayama Croquette" (100 yen) from here. The rich savoriness of the meat, which doesn't require sauce, made me realize why it has been loved for so many years. This perfect size is just right for a snack.

The best holiday filled with delicious encounters.

To finish, we had the "Hayama Ginger Soft" from HINODE-EN CAFE (399 yen). What kind of taste can ginger and soft serve ice cream have together? Taking a bite with a mix of anticipation and nerves, I was surprised at how much of a punch the ginger packed, even more than I imagined! After the sharp spiciness unique to ginger, the milky sweetness of the soft serve ice cream follows. What a stimulating adult soft serve ice cream it is!

I was shocked when a seagull stole my bread by the seaside, but looking back at the end of the day, it turned out to be the best holiday filled with delicious encounters. All's well that ends well. Indeed, Hayama is the best.
