【MF Ghost Pilgrimage】We actually drove on the Atami Seaside Double Lane! We also got the driving permit sticker
This is the second project to pilgrimage the setting of the popular anime "MF Ghost." We actually drove the course of the "Atami Seaside Double Lane." We also thoroughly captured the locations of the impressive "Hydro Trap" and "Jump Spot" that were depicted in the series, so please use this as a reference for your drive.
The simple and top-notch high-speed course is an area prone to traffic jams
The Atami Seaside Double Lane course has a simple layout, making it one of the top high-speed courses in the series. It's easy to trace, but it's also an area with heavy traffic and prone to congestion. Moreover, the day I visited happened to be the first day of a holiday weekend, so I decided to visit early in the morning.
A beautiful view unfolds along the Atami Beach Line
This is the gate at the start point of the Atami Beach Line. From here, you run towards Yugawara, turn around, and return to this spot. In fact, I have only seen the anime's qualifying rounds, so I can't experience the scenes from the final part that haven't aired yet. Therefore, I'll focus on following the course layout.
An impressive red bridge is visible as soon as you start. There are similar bridges in the Peninsula Manazuru, and the red arch that matches the coastal scenery is charming. It was my first time driving on the Atami Beach Line, and it is a very beautiful and pleasant route.
Here is the location where a waterfall called "Hydro Trap" falls and becomes flooded. In previous in-game races, irregular elements due to natural phenomena have been added, but the Hydro Trap causes "hydroplaning" (a dangerous phenomenon where a layer of water forms between the tires and the road surface, causing the tires to float and become uncontrollable, making steering and braking ineffective). Such settings are often used to level the combat power difference of cars or to create more dramatic developments.
We have arrived at the Atami Beachline tollgate. We didn't pay at the entrance, but here we pay 500 yen (for light/passenger vehicles). The intersection ahead is the turnaround point.
We make a U-turn from the left side of the beach line to head towards National Route 135, which has an upward slope. The starting point for this filming is from here, and if coming from the Yugawara direction, it should be a similar route considering efficiency.
A jump spot that seems likely to cause some turbulence.
Here is the most distinctive point, the "Jump Spot." It is located directly above the Hydro Trap, with a jump ramp set up to leap over the flow, allowing each vehicle to fly through the air like in Mario Kart. This is also a crucial point that can greatly influence the outcome of the race.
When you reach the sign for Sector 3, the goal is just there
When you arrive at this point where the museum sign is, the goal is just there. Since it consists of a straight line and two turnarounds, it feels like we've reached the latter stages quite quickly. With the few corners, perhaps they set up hydro traps and jump spots as highlights to create some variation.
The final corner is beyond a cluster of resort apartments that symbolize Atami. I would like to live in a place like this just once.
The corner at the gas station is the goal point. Beyond this is the entrance to the Atami Beach Line again. This time, by starting early, I was able to move smoothly even though it was the first day of the holiday.
The "Times Atami City East" right next to the goal point serves as the paddock, and this is also a pilgrimage point. The palm trees are growing, giving a full resort feeling. Since I have extra time, I will head to Odawara to grab some goods from the MF Ghost campaign being held there.
I got my long-awaited driving permit sticker in Odawara
I arrived at the Odawara City Tourist Exchange Center, which is located right next to Odawara Castle. Like in Manazuru, where I previously did some coverage, a stamp rally for MF Ghost is being held (until March 31, 2026), and various goods can be obtained. If you shop here for over 500 yen, you will receive a driving permit sticker that will be placed on the pilot's machine, so I came here with that in mind.
I purchased an MF Ghost Craft Cola (540 yen) and got the sticker I had been longing for! The craft cola has a genuine taste with cloves and cinnamon and is delicious. I was also able to visit the sacred site, Odawara Castle, which made for a great conclusion to my trip. With the excitement of the MF Ghost still fresh, why not run through the holy site? Over!
