【BYD】e-Sports Sedan "Seal" Revised! Expansion of Standard Equipment but Price Drops by “330,000 yen”?

BYD's e-Sports Sedan "Seal" has undergone some revisions. Changes to the suspension and compatibility with CarPlay, among others, have upgraded the standard equipment. Yet, surprisingly, the price has gone down…!?

What has changed with the standard equipment update?

The "Seal," which is the third model introduced in Japan, will be released in June 2024. It will be available in two models: rear-wheel drive (RWD) "Seal" and all-wheel drive (AWD) "Seal AWD," with a range of 640 km for the RWD and 575 km for the AWD, allowing for ample enjoyment of long-distance driving.

Let's first take a look at some of the improvements made this time, focusing on functionality. Reflecting feedback from users, improvements were made in the cooling performance and quietness of the air conditioning, support for wireless CarPlay connectivity, and efficiency enhancements for V2H, which allows power to be discharged to the home.

In addition, the interior equipment includes a glass roof with an electric sunshade as standard, and a sunglasses case has also been added to the driver's seat. Furthermore, focusing on the doors, they are compatible with the digital NFC key adopted in this year's "Sea Lion 7." This allows locking and unlocking using a smartphone or smartwatch.

The AWD features an electronically controlled suspension.

As for the exterior, it adopts new design 19-inch aluminum wheels. Additionally, the AWD features red-painted brake calipers, enhancing sportiness.

Note that the color Arctic Blue has been discontinued.

Next, there are different changes in the suspension depending on the grade, with RWD being changed to the mechanically controlled hydraulic variable damper that was used in AWD. On the other hand, AWD has newly adopted the electronically controlled suspension, DiSus-C. Compared to the previous model, it allows for more precise damping force control, achieving a smooth ride and high driving stability.

Currently, there is an initial purchase benefit being offered, and if you contract and register by the end of December 2025, you will receive the following benefits.

- BYD Wall box wall-mounted AC charging box for EV (3kW) + installation cost support of 80,000 yen
- Rear spoiler + black emblem (AWD only)

Despite all these features, it is surprising that the base price for both RWD and AWD has decreased by 330,000 yen. When combined with subsidies, the RWD can be purchased for about 4.5 million yen. It offers great cost performance, making it a recommended option for those looking to debut in electric vehicles.
