Car enthusiasts are particular about “this” level! A smart key case made of machined metal and Tochigi leather

Since I am so particular about my beloved car, I want to give the “smart key” a special feel as well. That said, I still want to maintain operability. A smart key case made of aircraft materials and Tochigi leather seems like it would make a good partner.

Let’s make smart keys more stylish

What catches your eye first with the "Smart Key Case TRUSS" are the metal parts arranged on both sides. The design reminiscent of truss structures used in bridges and buildings comes in two variations: a duralumin model and a titanium model. The metal parts are not made by bending or casting sheets, but are carved from solid material. It is combined with Tochigi leather.

If it were just metal, it would look quite mechanical, and if it were just leather, it would look like a typical key case. By combining the two, it maintains a car part feel while fitting as an everyday carry item. What a brilliant idea!

If it's a car you drive every day, the key is a part of the car as well. Considering that, it seems appropriate for it to have this kind of presence.

It's metal but very lightweight

It looks a bit heavy, but the weight of the duralumin model is approximately 57.7g. The titanium model weighs about 77.5g. The dimensions for both are approximately 56mm wide × 86mm high × 21mm thick. The duralumin model is machined from materials used in aircraft, and the titanium model uses pure titanium. The material combined with it is domestically sourced Tochigi leather.

Initially, it has a calm appearance, but it's enjoyable to see the color and luster change as you use it more. On the other hand, the metal part can be polished and maintained if small scratches occur. The new state is not the end, but rather it becomes gradually yours as you use it. As a smart key case, it looks like it will have a long relationship.

Of course, it can be operated while inside the case

Not only the design, but also the daily usage has been considered. The dimensions for the storable smart key are approximately 40mm in width, 80mm in length, and 17mm in thickness. There is some leeway in the leather part, allowing it to accommodate slightly larger keys with a thickness of about 1-2mm. Furthermore, if you remember the button positions, you can operate it directly over the leather without taking the key out of the case.

Since it's a smart key, you can usually open it while it's in your bag or pocket, but it can be cumbersome to take it out of the case every time you want to use the buttons. The inside is covered with suede, making it difficult for the key body to directly touch the metal parts. There is also a rotating D-ring on the side, allowing for the attachment of straps or other keys. It does not become hard to use for protection; instead, you can use it normally while it's in the case. As something that is in your pocket every day, it satisfactorily fulfills the essential aspects that you wouldn't want to compromise on.

A smart key becomes extraordinary through the hands of craftsmen

It’s a small key case, but the manufacturing of the metal parts takes quite a bit of time. At FACTRON, they perform three-dimensional cutting processing at their workshop in Ota Ward, Tokyo, carving parts from solid metal. The processing time for the side parts and components is about 4.5 hours for the duralumin model and about 8 hours for the titanium model, which is surprising. Even after cutting, artisans perform polishing and finishing.

Do they really go that far with the key case? It’s a level of dedication that makes one think so. For car enthusiasts, it’s not just about the wheels and interior anymore. In the end, you might want to customize even the smart key in your pocket a bit.
