【Street Chinese】 Enjoy authentic ramen and gyoza at "Kōen" in the residential area of Sagamihara.

Recently, the author has been eating mostly Jiro-style ramen. Perhaps as a reaction to that, I suddenly craved authentic soy sauce ramen. So, I decided to head to "Chuka Ryori Koen," located in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It's a neighborhood Chinese restaurant quietly standing in a residential area. I had been curious about it after hearing that a friend is a regular there. Since there is no dedicated parking lot, I used a nearby coin parking lot to enter the restaurant. I found that many of the surrounding coin parking lots were surprisingly full, so I recommend researching beforehand.

Inside the glass case are traditional food samples. There was even ramen with chopsticks floating in it. The atmosphere of this street-side Chinese restaurant exceeded my expectations. When I entered the shop, it felt as if time had stopped once again. The walls were adorned with signatures of sumo wrestlers and soccer players, and there were posters of baseball players as well. As a fan of street-side Chinese restaurants, I couldn't hide my excitement at the glimpse of the owner's personality and preferences displayed in the interior.

Since I stopped by in the early afternoon, the shop was bustling with many customers. While waiting for the staff, I heard a customer say, "These dumplings are delicious!" Hearing such words, I couldn't resist placing an order. The set of ramen, dumplings, and rice was tempting, but I felt I wouldn't be able to finish the rice, so this time I ordered ramen alone and mini dumplings.

As I gazed at the signs and photos displayed in the shop, before I knew it, the gyoza and ramen arrived. Yes, yes, this is exactly the traditional ramen and gyoza I wanted to eat.

I can't wait any longer! Let's dig into the ramen before the noodles get soggy. The simple flavor of soy sauce and the umami of the broth spread gently in my mouth, warming my heart with its delicate taste. This is the authentic soy sauce ramen I was looking for! In no time, I finished it all.

And now, I will have the gyoza that has been highly praised. The punchy garlic flavor hits hard! The crispy skin with a nice char is fragrant and crunchy, while the other side has a chewy, tender texture. It's been a long time since I've encountered such delicious gyoza.

The quality is so good that it's no wonder my friend becomes a regular! Both the ramen and gyoza were far beyond the level of typical Chinese food in the area. The ginger pork that other customers were enjoying also looked delicious, so I want to challenge myself with a different menu next time, but the ramen is hard to resist. I'm torn about what to order next.
