【Gourmet Drive】I visited the popular three pudding shops on "Tamago Kaido," the holy land for egg lovers in Sagamihara

Known as the holy land for egg lovers, I have come to Tamago Kaido in Sagamihara. All the shops offer fresh eggs, and I will be comparing puddings made with those eggs.

The "Egg Street" is an intense area for sweets that egg lovers can't resist

Known as a holy place for egg lovers, "Egg Street" in the Amazu area of Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. This street, lined with poultry farms, is also famous as a fierce battleground for sweets that egg enthusiasts can't resist. The target here is not eggs... but pudding! We will compare puddings made with carefully selected eggs.

The pudding from "Farm House" where honey-scented caramel and rich eggs blend together

First, we arrived at "Farm House." This is a direct sales shop operated by the Kotobuki Poultry Farm, and it is a popular spot often full on weekends. My grandmother loves the pudding here, and I always buy it as a souvenir when I visit. In addition to pudding, they sell carefully crafted sweets like cream puffs and crème brûlée, as well as local vegetables, egg oil, and soy sauce for raw eggs.

The "Smooth Pudding" (356 yen) luxuriously uses the brand egg "Chouju Egg," which is proudly produced by Kotobuki-en, and it has homemade caramel with honey at the bottom. The packaging is shaped like an egg, conveying the message that the egg is the star of this dessert.
Upon taking a bite, the rich egg flavor spreads throughout the mouth, reminiscent of custard. It's smooth and creamy in texture, yet it retains just the right amount of firmness, allowing you to enjoy the pudding-like feel. Among this batch of puddings, this one is the sweetest, striking a chord with sweet-toothed reviewers like myself. The standout feature is the deliciousness of the caramel! Perhaps because it contains honey, it has less bitterness, enhancing the delicate sweetness of the pudding. While maximizing the potential of the eggs, it also has high quality as a dessert, making it a pudding you can’t stop eating once you start.

The rich punch of "Ougawa Phoenix Sweet Eggs" pudding

Next, I visited "Ougawa Phoenix Sweet Eggs." This is also a direct sales shop with a café operated by a poultry farm. Inside the store, besides the main product, the Phoenix Eggs, they offer various sweets, and in the adjacent café, you can enjoy carefully crafted egg dishes such as omelet rice and rice topped with raw egg. The charm of this place is that you can not only buy fresh eggs but also enjoy eating them on-site.

By the way, there are terrace seats where you can enjoy a meal with your pet, making it a delightful spot for dog lovers as well.

When I purchased the "Raw Pudding" (334 yen), I received a boiled egg for free. The boiled eggs from "Ogawa Phoenix Sweet Eggs" are rich in flavor and really delicious. However, if you go just before closing, they might be sold out, so I recommend visiting earlier in the day.
When I added the accompanying caramel, the rich punch of the phoenix egg resonated strongly. It is so rich, yet the aftertaste is refreshing, without being too heavy. The sweetness is solid and allows you to fully enjoy the quality of the ingredients, feeling a quality that is incomparable to the pudding you usually eat.

The texture of the pudding is also an important point, and I was impressed by the sensation of it melting on my tongue while feeling a perfect firmness. With the slight bitterness of the caramel intertwined, it adds sharpness and turns it into an adult dessert.

The richness of the ingredients! A firmer pudding reminiscent of "old-fashioned egg farm" like a coffee shop.

"The 'Old-fashioned Flavored Egg Farm' is a direct sales shop that sells eggs that are particular about water and environment, as well as using natural ingredients for feed. In addition to exceptionally fresh eggs and puddings, the attached YOLO BURGER offers carefully crafted hamburgers.

I stopped by in the afternoon, but there were no puddings in the refrigerated case... While I was somewhat resigned, I asked the staff, and I received a delightful reply: 'They just arrived!' I was lucky! There was also a boiled egg service.
The 'Pudding' (250 yen) here also has a caramel that is added later. It's perfectly additive-free pudding made solely from eggs, milk, and sugar, truly relying on the quality of the ingredients.

While it has a refined and high-level taste, there is indeed a sense of nostalgia. Perhaps this is because the sweetness is moderate and it doesn’t contain any flavorings like vanilla beans. The natural umami and flavors of the ingredients are highlighted. Additionally, the texture is firm, reminiscent of the firmer puddings found in coffee shops. I usually prefer softer puddings, but this one is exceptional. The straightforward umami completely captivated my heart and stomach.
