In the upcoming season, there are many scenarios where waterproof cases will come in handy, such as outdoor activities by the water or festivals during rainy weather. "The iPhone is technically waterproof, but I’m still a bit worried when it gets wet..." When I was thinking that, I found a 110 yen "smartphone waterproof case" at Daiso. I will test its waterproof capabilities.

What I bought from Daiso's mobile corner is the "Smartphone Waterproof Case." It features a protection grade equivalent to IP68, indicating very high dust and water resistance.

The main body size is 11.5×20.5×1.2cm. It can comfortably fit the largest iPhone currently on sale (as of May 2025), the iPhone 16 Pro Max (7.76×16.3×0.825cm). I also tried placing my iPhone 14 inside, and there was ample space.

After placing the smartphone inside, just turn the dial lock at the opening to secure it, and you’re done. It can be firmly fixed, providing peace of mind when engaging in active activities like hiking, camping, or festivals. By the way, the strap is detachable.

This time we are simulating a heavy rain and pouring water generously using a hose. If left as is, the iPhone might break, but… keeping it in this waterproof case provides protection. The material of the case repels water, making it easy to manage.

That said, even if it can prevent water, if you can't operate it, it's just a container. I tried touching it while it was wet… and I was able to touch it without any issues. Flick operations were also no problem.

If the iPhone's screen is wet, it can malfunction or become unresponsive, which can lead to unexpected phenomena, but when it’s in the waterproof case, I was able to operate the iPhone smoothly even when water was splashing on it like in this photo! I left it like that for a bit, but there were no malfunctions.

Here is the photo I took. Most of it was captured without any problems, but you can see a few water droplets on the corners. By the way, after this, I tried to take a photo with the iPhone’s camera lens wet, but no matter how much I wiped it, the droplets wouldn’t come off, resulting in blurry photos. If you want to take clear pictures, it seems necessary to use something like an umbrella to protect the lens.

Now, let's finally take it out. With a pounding heart, I pulled out the iPhone, and it was completely dry (what a relief). At a cost-performance value of 110 yen, if it can operate and take photos without any issues, it can be considered excellent.

The "smartphone waterproof case" is easy to put on and take off, so it will definitely be useful not only outdoors but also on rainy days. It's also recommended for outings during the rainy season.
