Group travel record spent with a large family of 19 at the large rental villa "Stay Ocean Tateyama"
BBQ on a huge wooden deck! A report on a group trip spent with 19 family members at the large rental villa "Stay Ocean Tateyama" in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture. What are the freedoms that cannot be achieved in a hotel, the sense of unity unique to a large group, and the attractions discovered precisely because it is a rental villa?
A large vacation rental hosts a gathering of 19 people! A special weekend stay

The "Stay Ocean Tateyama" we visited this time is a large vacation rental renovated from a former pension. It's about a 10-minute walk to the sea, with a huge wooden deck for BBQs, and in summer, you can enjoy playing in the pool at this location where we stayed with a total of 19 people, including parents, sibling families, and children.

While relaxing in bedrooms for each family, gathering in the large living room or on the deck naturally created a smile-inducing experience.
It was an irreplaceable time where both children and adults could spend their moments freely. Since we were able to experience a level of freedom and connection that a hotel cannot provide, I will report on it.

Why we chose a large vacation rental

The composition of the group includes parents, my brother's family, my family, two sister families, and my brother's family, totaling 6 families. There are 10 adults and 9 children, making a total of 19 people.
Hotels were considered as options, but it was quite difficult to find a facility that could accommodate such a large number of people at once. Furthermore, thinking about wanting to "ensure each family's room" and "having enough space for the children to play without worry," I felt it would be challenging to meet these conditions at a hotel.

Furthermore, thinking about wanting to "ensure each family's room" and "having enough space for the children to play without worry," I felt it would be challenging to meet these conditions at a hotel.

What I found there was "Stay Ocean Tateyama." The two-story building has 10 bedrooms, allowing each family to secure a private space.

At night, we could tuck the kids in and the adults could relax and chat in the living room. I felt that being able to cherish individual time while spending it all under the same roof is a charm unique to vacation rentals.
Moreover, the fact that it is about a one and a half hour drive from Kanagawa Prefecture was a decisive factor. With children, long travel can often be burdensome, but from Tateyama in Chiba Prefecture, the distance is manageable. The ability to experience an extraordinary environment in an open space close to the sea was a much greater advantage than I had imagined.

The ease of checking in & out without any hassle and the sense of exclusivity.

Reservations are completed online, and on the day of check-in, you simply open the door with the code sent 30 minutes before 3 PM. There’s no need to face anyone, and check-out is done in the same way, so there was no hassle with the procedures at all.
When traveling with a large group, checking in and out can take time, but thanks to this system, we could start our stay smoothly. The sense of exclusivity that allows you to enter without waiting for staff is a casualness that you won't find in hotels.

A different experience than a hotel, like a tropical resort.

The children’s eyes sparkled as soon as we arrived at the spacious wooden deck. There was plenty of room to run around safely, while the adults began preparing for the BBQ next to it.

At the BBQ, we shared freshly grilled food around the fire. There was a sense of togetherness that felt different from a hotel restaurant. By gathering around the same table, both adults and children naturally engaged in conversation.

By the way, the pool was available for private use limited to July through September. The children were happily playing, creating splashes with their floats and balls. The opportunity to let loose without worrying about onlookers must have created special summer memories.

Adults relaxed by the poolside with drinks in hand, and sometimes joined the children in the water, refreshing themselves wholeheartedly. It felt like spending luxurious time in a tropical resort.
The charm of being able to gather but also have space to separate noticed during the stay.

What left the strongest impression during my stay was the sense of security that comes from being able to "gather while also being able to separate." When traveling with a large group, it can be tiring to always be together, but this rental villa has 10 bedrooms, allowing each family to rest at their own pace.

On the other hand, when everyone gathers in the living room or on the deck, it naturally allows for everyone to see each other, with children playing and adults chatting. I realized that the ability to balance "being together" and "relaxing individually" is a unique charm of large rental villas.
The extraordinary luxury that can only be experienced in a large rental villa

The "Stay Ocean Tateyama" which we visited as a large group of 19 people, was a place that offered a different kind of freedom compared to a hotel. Bedrooms for each family to rest in, a vast space for everyone to gather, and a sense of privacy for BBQs and the pool. During my actual stay, I strongly felt the extraordinary luxury that is unique to large rental villas.
