【Going out with pets】Enjoy a dog run & park stroll with your beloved dog in the vast Showa Kinen Park in Tokyo.
This weekend, we came to Showa Kinen Park in Tokyo with our beloved dogs. After running freely in the spacious dog run, we enjoyed strolling through the park while feeling the pleasant breeze. It's a park report where both the dogs and their owners can refresh themselves.
Both people and their beloved dogs are captivated by the vastness of Showa Kinen Park
Located across Tachikawa City and Akishima City in Tokyo, Showa Kinen Park was created on the site of the former Tachikawa Airfield as part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Emperor Showa's reign, covering a total area of 180 hectares. On October 26, 1983 (Showa 58), 70 hectares were opened as the first phase of the park.
Within this immensely large park, many visitors come from afar to enjoy a variety of recreational activities in a rich natural environment.

In daily life with my dog, I can't give much attention during weekdays, so I try to go out together on weekends. The park has a large dog run, and there’s plenty of room for walks, making it highly recommended for dog lovers.
By the way, if you're aiming for the dog run, I recommend the “Tachikawa Gate” among the six entrances. The entrance to the dog run is right next to it, so you can complete the admission process smoothly without making your dog wait.

You can enter by presenting proof of vaccination for three or more types of combination vaccines and the rabies vaccination certificate, or the vaccination tag (plate) at the entrance of the dog run. There is no additional usage fee, so you can enjoy the park all day long with just the entrance fee.
The dog run has various areas and shade.
Showa Memorial Park's dog run is divided into various areas, including a section dedicated to large and medium-sized dogs, a section for small dogs, a playful area perfect for energetic pooches, and an open active area that accommodates all breeds. I’m happy that I can choose an area suitable for our Chihuahua.
My dog isn’t that active, but on this day, in front of the spacious dog run, they happily greeted other dogs and eagerly sniffed around. They seem to be having so much fun, more than during our usual walks. Although the sunlight is getting stronger with the seasons, the dog run at Showa Memorial Park has plenty of shade and is comfortable. Here, I can enjoy my time without worrying about exhausting them, and they can stay happy till the end.
Recently, during our favorite ball games, they were so absorbed in playing that they kept asking me to "throw it!" over and over again. Watching them energetically wag their tail while chasing the ball in the dog run gives me energy too.
From strolling around the park to the bench by the waterfowl pond, and enjoying roasted sweet potatoes, it has become a tradition.
A stroll with my beloved dog in the park is smooth due to the beautifully maintained wide paths. Walking while gazing at the flowers and trees that change their appearance with the seasons, I can genuinely feel refreshed. My dog also showed a different, curious expression compared to earlier at the dog run.
After a leisurely 20-minute walk from the dog run area, we could see the water bird pond, our destination for today. Since it's May, the vibrant fresh greenery is beautiful. There are plenty of benches by the pond, making it the perfect spot to enjoy the scenery while taking a break. It seems my dog got tired along the way and stopped walking to ask for a carry. It was a good idea to bring a dog sling just in case.
Taking a breather here, it's the usual routine to give a snack. I bought my dog's favorite, roasted sweet potato, from a food truck. Of course, humans love it too.
When I returned to the bench with the roasted sweet potato, my dog jumped up as if saying, "I've been waiting for this!" The exhaustion from earlier seemed to vanish, and it appears to possess boundless energy in front of food. The enthusiasm for the treat brought a smile to my face.
A pet cart is convenient for fully enjoying the spaciousness.
I抱っこして、帰路につきました。 The beloved dogs were completely satisfied after ample exercise, and the owner was able to recharge with the healing power from the fresh greenery and the happy dogs. The area we visited that day is just a small part of Showa Kinen Park, but with a pet cart, you could explore more of the vast park.
