Located near Motomusashi Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line, "Omusubi Gottsu Tabena Hare" is renowned for its kakigori. The signature menu's rich matcha kintoki kakigori has an exquisite blend of matcha's aroma and the sweetness of red bean paste, while the refreshing acidity of the rare cheesecake kakigori is also impressive. We reported on a bowl suitable for special days such as couples' dates
A luxurious shaved ice experience encountered at a rice ball specialty shop

"Omusubi Gotsu Tabena Hare," located close to the Tokyu Toyoko Line's Motosumiyoshi Station. As the name suggests, it is a rice ball specialty shop that started with the desire for customers to enjoy rice balls, but it has gained a reputation for its shaved ice during the first summer since opening in February of this year.

Among them, the standout popular item is "Rich Matcha Azuki Rare Cheese Cream."

It combines the deep aroma of matcha, the gentle sweetness of red bean paste, and the impactful flavor of rare cheesecake, creating a bowl that allows you to feel the luxury of Japanese flavors.

Initially, shaved ice was not on the menu when they first opened, but to boost sales in the shopping district during the summer, they began offering small shaved ice in May. This was well received, and since July, they have introduced the current larger sizes to their lineup.

The presence of the large mound of ice is magnificent, and it brings a smile to your face involuntarily. The matcha sauce is carefully prepared in-house, and its flavor pursues a balance not only of sweetness but also of acidity. There are clever touches that prevent you from getting tired of it until the very end, and with each spoonful, the aroma and sweetness evolve.
It’s enjoyable to tackle it alone, but sharing with a spouse or partner turns its size into a topic of conversation. The time spent enjoying the changes in flavor while exchanging spoons feels like a little escape from the ordinary.

The owner's commitment to large kakigori

When I asked the owner about the popular menu items,
"The most popular is, of course, the rich matcha kintoki rare cheese cream kakigori. With a flavor that’s excellent and a price that's easy to enjoy, we’re conscious of providing a satisfyingly ample portion. We also value the size that brings joy the moment it’s served."
They shared this with me.

True to their concept since establishment of "Gottu tabenahare" (meaning "I want you to eat until you’re full"), the shop firmly embodies that spirit in its kakigori as well.

Just like the seaweed used for rice ball fillings and side dishes, matcha and fruit sauces are also carefully selected for finishing touches. "The strawberry sauce is very sweet, and it can feel heavy if consumed alone, so we add acidity to create a fresher flavor," they shared, recounting the background of their trial and error.

Loved by a wide range of ages, the summer signature menu

Many customers visiting the store come not just from the local area, but also from afar by train.
"There are many older customers, and some take out smaller kakigori. There are cases where couples or spouses share a large kakigori, and some enjoy it along with onigiri."
As they share a generous kakigori with spoons, conversations spark about which part to eat next. This way of spending time is part of the charm of this shop. The rich flavors of matcha and the acidity of cheese appeal to adult tastes, making them feel special as a sweet treat for dates or anniversaries.

"Since the matcha was well-received, I think the next one may be roasted tea or something with a Japanese taste. I also tried things like Mitarashi caramel, but haven’t yet reached the ideal flavor... However, I want to search for new flavors that customers can enjoy,”
they said with a smile. Despite the trial and error, there have been discoveries like “unexpected combinations were delicious.” Expectations continue to rise for the evolving kakigori.

A specialty onigiri shop that you'd want to visit when hungry

The basics of "Onigiri Gotta Eat" is that it's a specialty onigiri shop. Along with classic ume and salmon, the most popular is the harasu ikura, and there are always about 17 types available, including onigiri made with brown rice. (※ Harasu ikura is only with white rice)
After filling up with onigiri, enjoying kakigori together as a couple offers a little luxury that can be savored in everyday life.
