I immediately put my smartphone in a case and set a time for when I wouldn't use it. Instead of trying to "be careful not to look at it," I spent my time with the premise of deciding, "Now is a time to not look."

Since I could remove the silicone cover in necessary situations and still be able to take calls, I didn't feel anxious at all.

Rather than completely cutting off access, I was able to create an environment to comfortably spend the time I decided, "Now I won't look at the screen."

In a life with a smartphone locking case, there wasn't any dramatic change. However, with less time distracted by my smartphone, I became more aware of the "things I truly wanted to do."

Rather than just increasing the time not spent on my smartphone, it may be closer to the feeling that there are more situations where I can choose how to use my time. Being able to feel that change was the biggest gain from this experience.
