【Quality of Life Boost】What changes occurred with the 3COINS "Smartphone Locking Case"?

By putting the smartphone in a state where it can't be used for a certain period of time, how does the concentration time at work and home change? I actually used the 3COINS smartphone locking case and organized the changes between what I thought I would do and what I was actually able to do.

What is smartphone locking that prevents you from using your smartphone?

Smartphone locking refers to physically confining a smartphone inside a container (box) such that it cannot be opened until the set time, and this container is generally referred to as a "locking container."

During work or at home, people tend to look at their smartphones more than necessary. Even if one wants to concentrate, distractions from notifications or the habit of checking the smartphone often lead to difficulties in maintaining focus.

Therefore, I decided to try 3COINS' "smartphone locking case." The reason is simple: I wanted to see how my use of time would change if I couldn't look at my smartphone from the start.
This case prevents you from opening the lid until the set timer has elapsed after placing the smartphone inside and setting the timer, which means it cannot be operated during that time. The locking duration can be set from 5 minutes to 24 hours, allowing it to be used according to the flow of life, such as 30 minutes during work or a break after returning home.
It is possible to charge while locked, and since you can respond to necessary communications, there is no sense of complete disconnection. This time, based on this state, I organized what changes occurred between what I intended to do and what I actually accomplished.

What matters is not the convenience of the item but what becomes possible by distancing oneself from the smartphone.

Create time without touching your smartphone consciously.

I immediately put my smartphone in a case and set a time for when I wouldn't use it. Instead of trying to "be careful not to look at it," I spent my time with the premise of deciding, "Now is a time to not look."
Since I could remove the silicone cover in necessary situations and still be able to take calls, I didn't feel anxious at all.
Rather than completely cutting off access, I was able to create an environment to comfortably spend the time I decided, "Now I won't look at the screen."

Things I intended to do at work / Things I actually did

【Things I intended to do】
・I want to concentrate on work for just 30 minutes
・I want to ensure time to think without looking at my smartphone midway
・I want to clearly demarcate my work

【Things I actually did】
・I managed to continue working for 30 minutes without reaching for my smartphone
・By not worrying about notifications, my thoughts were less likely to be interrupted
・The time until the completion of work felt shorter

It was impressive that instead of trying to "be careful not to look," keeping my hands off it from the beginning allowed me to focus without expending unnecessary awareness.

What I intended to do during my time at home / What I actually accomplished

【What I intended to do】
・I wanted to reduce the time spent looking at my smartphone during work breaks
・I wanted to take some time to read, even if it's just a little
・I wanted to switch my breaks more effectively

【What I actually accomplished】
・Somehow, the time spent looking at my smartphone decreased
・The barrier to opening a book became lower
・I started moving my body during breaks

Rather than simply increasing the time I spend not looking at my smartphone, I felt a stronger sense of "What should I do next?"

By keeping my distance from my smartphone, I found I could choose how to use my time

In a life with a smartphone locking case, there wasn't any dramatic change. However, with less time distracted by my smartphone, I became more aware of the "things I truly wanted to do."

Rather than just increasing the time not spent on my smartphone, it may be closer to the feeling that there are more situations where I can choose how to use my time. Being able to feel that change was the biggest gain from this experience.
