With the 3COINS Travel Security Shoulder Bag & Socks, I tried to secure my valuables while traveling
That unsettling moment when you take your eyes off your valuables while traveling. The 3COINS Travel Security Shoulder Bag & Socks respond to those small anxieties. How does a mindset change for travel with just 550 yen?
3COINS' 550 yen travel security goods
I happened to find a series called "TABI SURUHI" (Traveling Days) at a 3COINS store. On the shelf were simple black "socks" and "shoulder straps," both priced at 550 yen. At first glance, they seem like ordinary accessories, but upon closer inspection, I discovered they are travel security items with zipper pockets designed to hide valuables.
There are surprisingly times during travel when you need to be cautious about your valuables. For instance, the moment you need to get up to use the restroom on the shinkansen or when you have to leave your suitcase while choosing souvenirs at a tourist spot.
With this "subtle anxiety of traveling," I thought I might lighten the load for 550 yen. With that expectation in mind, I picked up both items.

"Travel Security Socks" with pockets on the side
At first glance, these travel security socks look just like regular socks. However, when I opened them up, I realized they have zipper pockets on both sides of each foot.
When I tried folding a 1000 yen bill into thirds and putting it in, it fits neatly. Even when wearing sneakers, the zipper part is somewhat visible, but it would be hard to imagine that cash is hidden in the socks. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to use it, but in case of an emergency, having cash always on me might provide some peace of mind.
Even when moving around empty-handed, a part of my valuables is still on me, so there is an unconscious sense of security.
It might be more suitable in dangerous areas overseas than within Japan, but there's a feeling of being in a position that is "not noticed" rather than "not on guard." It might be the perfect hiding spot to stash "backup cash that I absolutely don’t want to be taken."

Hidden pocket in the strap "Travel Security Shoulder"
The other Travel Security Shoulder has a zippered pocket integrated right into the shoulder strap itself.
Its length is about 125 cm. It is designed to remove the original shoulder strap from your handbag and replace it with this one. The zipper on the strap's surface is discreet, and at first glance, it just looks like an ordinary strap.
The pocket itself is slim, making it difficult to fit bills folded into thirds; however, they fit well when folded into quarters, and items like house keys can also be stored.
A strap that allows you to use your existing bag as is
① Remove the original shoulder strap from the bag → ② Hook the carabiner of this product onto the D-ring on the bag side. That's all there is to it. There's no need to buy a new bag, and your usual bag can quickly transform into "one with a valuables pocket."
I tried wearing it crossbody, real usability
I actually attached it to the bag and wore it crossbody. I don't think anyone would notice that there is money in the strap just by looking from the outside.
The action of taking out bills reduces the risk of having to glance at my wallet since there’s no need to rummage through my bag. The ability to quickly open and close it with one hand is more comfortable than I expected. However, since it's an emergency pocket, what you put in it is up to you.
After using it, I realized what had changed.
Wearing these items made me suddenly aware of how I had been unconsciously carrying the "weight of valuables" in the back of my mind during past travels. When I stood up to go to the restroom on the Shinkansen, or when I briefly looked away from my bag at a souvenir shop, there was a sense in the back of my mind that "my entire fortune is in here," which may have caused my body to tense up without me realizing it.
By distributing my valuables between these socks and straps, that tension might ease. Even if I find myself in a situation where I have to take my eyes off my bag for a moment, having the assurance that "at least this will remain" makes a difference in my mental ease. It seems like it would help me shift from "maximum vigilance" during my travels to "reasonable peace of mind." Spending 550 yen for this could be worthwhile.
The mindset for traveling that I could buy for 550 yen.
The 3COINS "TABI SURUHI" series offers socks and shoulder bags for 550 yen each. While they may not have flashy features, they can surely reduce those little anxieties associated with travel. If you have upcoming business trips, weekend getaways, or overseas travel planned, just having one can change the weight on your mind.
