【Yokohama】Sold out by the morning!? The popular vending machine "Mushroom House Hiramoto" has freshly picked shiitake that is too delicious
The author has had a long-standing aversion to shiitake. However, after being shocked by grilled shiitake eaten while traveling in Aomori, I was completely captivated. Based on information from a local friend about a vending machine where you can buy freshly picked shiitake, I decided to visit "Mushroom House Hiramoto" in Yokohama while on a drive.
Is there "shiitake" in the vending machine a little deeper in Yokohama?
While driving along a peaceful country road, I discovered a banner that said "Fresh Shiitake" and "Unmanned Sales"! It serves as a landmark for first-time visitors.
Oh! This is the "Mushroom House Hiramoto" that sells shiitake mushrooms from a vending machine. When I arrived, locals were lining up. According to word of mouth, there are times when they sell out in the morning.

I promptly checked inside the vending machine... and there was still stock available! Looking inside, not only shiitake but various items were inside.
The breakdown, like a "Today's Menu" sign, has a pop with a short comment next to the vending machine, which gives a sense of familiarity. Looking at it this way, in addition to shiitake mushrooms, there are also a variety of others like wood ear mushrooms and nameko, which might make it hard to decide which one to buy.
For a moment, I hesitated, but I stayed true to my initial intention and went for the shiitake. I got "fresh shiitake" for a reasonable price of 200 yen per bag.
The fresh shiitake feels delicious just by holding it. Since I was here, I also decided to get the "Three-Star Shiitake" (300 yen). I look forward to enjoying a comparison.
By the way, the sign next to it says, "Available only in the vending machine, will end as soon as sold out." Since there won’t be any restocking from the back, it seems that they can sell out.

I took them home and grilled them! I was surprised by their rich aroma and firmness.
On the left is "fresh shiitake," and on the right is "Three-Star Shiitake." When I lined them up like this, the Three-Star variety has about twice the thickness of the cap. With this much thickness, there might be a significant difference in taste and texture.
Cut off the stalk and slowly grill it on the stove. I heated the "micro stove" from Daiso with solid fuel. When moisture started to accumulate inside the cap, it was just right; I drizzled a small amount of soy sauce for finishing and tried it.
First, the "fresh shiitake." The moment I took a bite, the rich aroma was incredible! It can't be compared to the shiitake sold at supermarkets. There was absolutely no off-flavor, and I could taste an astonishing sweetness. This should be enjoyed with salt to taste the natural flavor without soy sauce.
Next, regarding the "three-star shiitake," it had even stronger elasticity than the previous "fresh shiitake," with a texture like abalone. The flavor was rich, giving a luxurious taste that made it hard to believe I was eating shiitake. To be able to enjoy such high-quality shiitake for 300 yen...
I felt I understood why both the fresh shiitake and three-star shiitake would surely sell out. Next time I go, I want to buy in bulk without hesitation.
