【Car Storage Ideas】I found that IKEA's large storage bag "DIMPA" and cooling bag "FRAKTA" were convenient in the Jimny.
I discovered that the Scandinavian furniture chain "IKEA" also has outdoor (seemingly useful) goods. I tried out storage bags that seem to make effective use of the small space in the JA22 Jimny, as I thought of them.
How does IKEA's large storage bag "DIMPA" change the space inside the car?
I discovered an item at IKEA, born in Scandinavia, that seems usable for outdoor activities. The bag "DIMPA" (399 yen), large enough to fit a car tire, measures 65×65×22 cm, a size that seems to hold just about anything. The sheer size, which left me unsure of what to put in it, piqued my interest as it felt like an overseas product.
As the author, I was hopeful that I could utilize its height to create a different layout for vehicle storage compared to common container boxes. I prepared a seemingly large amount of camping gear (3 tents, 3 tarps, 2 hammocks, sleeping bag, mat). Can it really hold all this!?
Upon trying, it all fit in the end. It felt like even more could fit if packed tightly. The bag is made of a sturdy material and shouldn't tear unless something sharp is inside. Of course, it can be carried over the shoulder like a bag, making it easy to transport to the campsite smoothly.
By utilizing its height when standing it up, I was able to make effective use of vertical space. It feels like there’s more floor space available compared to a container box. The area where the bag is placed was always occupied by containers, so I can now easily place large items like tables in the central gap between the bed frame.
I tried to store my homemade charcoal kotatsu set
Instead of camping gear, I attempted to store the homemade kotatsu set that had been occupying one container box. Since it was made originally, there was no storage case, and it had been cumbersome to carry. The particularly bulky item is the "yagura parts" that act as a heat source, which is difficult to fit inside the container box due to its shape.
I was able to wrap the yagura in the kotatsu futon and store the table together with it. I now have one container box worth of space freed up, making loading up for winter camping in the Jimny easier as the amount of gear increases. Although it was a bag with no clearly defined use, it's interesting how it can be very useful depending on how you use it.
IKEA's cooler bag "FRAKTA" and ice pack "KYLKLAMP"
The cooler bag version of the signature blue IKEA bag, "FRAKTA" (499 yen). I often have to give up on fresh food I encounter during trips due to the lack of a cooler box. I thought it might be useful to fold and keep it in the car for such occasions, so I purchased it. By the way, the size is 38×40 cm.
I also purchased the small cooling agent "KYLKLAMP" (150 yen) measuring 18×8cm. It needs to be frozen before use, but it's just the right size to place at the bottom of a cooling bag.
It seems useful for bringing back souvenirs or unexpectedly caught fish. In stream fishing, you hardly bring back enough fish to warrant taking a large cooler, so it might be a good match. I want to keep an eye on outdoor goods that seem useful from IKEA.
