I was on my way to Chigasaki while traveling on the Ken-O Expressway and suddenly felt very hungry, so I rushed in. I thought, "If I'm going to eat anyway," and upon researching, it turns out there is a local gourmet in Atsugi.

It's called the "Hormone Napolitan Set Meal." Hormone and Napolitan... or rather, a set meal!? This is something I couldn't pass up as the hungry writer.

When I entered the food court, the place was packed, and it seemed like many people were stopping by during their work. Checking the menu board next to the ticket vending machine, I discovered the "Hormone Napolitan Set Meal."

By the way, I've heard that Hormone Napolitan is known as a B-grade gourmet in Atsugi. I didn't know that.

After purchasing the meal ticket, I took a seat and waited until my number was called. The "Hormone Napolitan Set Meal" is served on a hot iron plate, with the Napolitan on top, and the smell of ketchup intensely stimulates my appetite. The sight of it accompanied by rice and miso soup is a dream collaboration of carbohydrates and carbohydrates!

I immediately took a bite of the Napolitan. It had a sweet flavor reminiscent of what you might find in school lunches, which was pleasantly delicious. The noodles were thick and had a chewy texture, making them very satisfying.

Next, I tried the intriguing hormone dish, and the rich Napolitan sauce combined with the plump umami of the hormones created a deep flavor. The taste was strong, and surprisingly, it paired wonderfully with rice! The miso soup was perfectly refreshing between bites, and I enjoyed every last mouthful.

While my stomach was satisfied, I suddenly craved something sweet. Oh, speaking of which, there’s a popular sandwich shop in Atsugi.

I drove to "Tamago Sand Kenkyujo" for some sweets

seeking sweets brought me to "Tamago Sand Kenkyujo" in Atsugi. Known for its rich egg flavor and fluffy texture, the egg sandwich is popular, but seasonal fruit sandwiches are also a hit.

During the COVID pandemic, there were frequent sell-outs, and lines formed during restocking times, but recently I’ve been able to buy them whenever I want. As a fan, this is delightful.

When I checked the refrigerator, I discovered fruit sandwiches. The types of fruit change with the seasons, so it’s always exciting to see what will be the star each time I visit.

The last time I came, I had the "Fruit BOX" which included strawberries and kiwis, and the fresh fruit added a lovely accent, making it delicious.

Rich yet refreshing exquisite fruit sandwich

What I was able to get this time was the "Mandarin & Orange Citrus Sandwich" (500 yen). Inside the chewy bread, there are fresh fruits with a good balance of tartness and sweetness, along with mildly sweet custard. Additionally, the layers of cream with a yogurt-like acidity create a rich yet refreshing exquisite harmony.

This is perfect after a hearty meal like the Hormone Napolitan set meal. It was a voluminous fruit sandwich, but I was able to finish it off easily.

Atsugi PA and the Egg Sandwich Research Institute are about a 15-minute drive apart, making them perfect spots to enjoy Atsugi gourmet. Please consider them for your next driving route.
