In Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, there’s "Ramen Marutomo" run by a produce store. The steamed noodle soup at this unique ramen shop is being talked about for its great volume, so I decided to check it out. How was the volume and taste?

Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, I went to the popular "Ramen Marutomo"

The author has turned discovering local gourmet food into a hobby. What the increasingly hungry author seeks is a sense of fullness that goes beyond imagination! Amongst daily ramen patrols, I discovered "Ramen Marutomo".

Perhaps due to its unusual background as a business run by a produce shop, I heard rumors about their impressive portion size of the tanmen and became intrigued. Reviews mentioned things like “shaped like a mountain” and “the vegetables hide the noodles,” raising expectations.

I visited on a Sunday. It seems to be very crowded right after opening, so I endured my hunger and aimed for a time just before the break. That timing worked out well, and I was able to enter the restaurant with about a 5-minute wait. The inside was more crowded than I had imagined, filled with energy. Near the entrance, they were also selling vegetables, creating an unusual scene for a ramen shop.

There were many other dishes available, such as stir-fried meat and vegetables and twice-cooked pork, but I ordered the tanmen without hesitation! While waiting for my family’s orders, I noticed that the call for tanmen resonated throughout the restaurant.

Indeed, it seems tanmen is the signature menu item at Marutomo.

The tanmen with an abundance of vegetables was beyond imagination.

After completing the order, I waited with my anticipation swelling for a few minutes. The long-awaited "Tansuke" (950 yen) has arrived! W-what is this mountain...? Since it was priced at 950 yen, I expected it to have at most a normal amount of vegetables like typical Jiro-style dishes, but this is a vegetable mountain!
Compared to the iPhone 15, it's like this. Not only is it tall, but it also includes various kinds such as bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, and wood ear mushrooms.

As soon as I took a bite, the vegetables were crispy! Seasoned with pepper, and when I gulped it down with the lightly flavored broth, it was simply exquisite. It had a fresh and juicy taste, and I could really feel the advantage of being run by a produce store.

Oh, even after eating the vegetables, the noodles aren’t coming out. This seems like it will be a long battle.
If I just keep eating, it might become monotonous, but the wonderful texture of the vegetables and the umami of the soup intertwined perfectly, allowing me to eat on with great enthusiasm.

After getting through about half of the vegetables, I finally reached the "noodles." At this point, I'm already 70% full. From here, I will savor the noodles and the soup. The noodles have absorbed the broth from the vegetables, and I enjoyed a blissful texture different from the vegetable part.
I was getting quite full. So, I added the vinegar and chili oil that were on the table, entering flavor-changing time. The acidity and spiciness tightened the flavor of the soup. Thanks to this, I was able to deliciously finish it all the way to the last bite.

I’m full, but the deliciousness allowed me to finish it all.

Honestly, when the steamed noodle soup came out and I was faced with that mountain of vegetables, I worried whether I could finish it… but thanks to the fresh vegetables and the flavorful soup, I was able to eat it all up in no time without stopping.

I ended up pretty full, but perhaps because it was packed with vegetables, I had no stomach discomfort at all! I encountered a steamed noodle soup that made me want to eat it again tomorrow, with a satisfaction level of 120%.
