【Luxury Time】Napping in the garden with Daiso's 550 yen hammock! A quiet holiday gifted by my first hammock experience

Using Daiso's 550 yen hammock in my home garden for my first hammock experience. Enjoying napping and reading while hanging it from a tree in the garden, I recommend experiencing the comfort of spending weekends outside.

My first hammock, got it from Daiso to try in the garden

In a busy daily life, just creating "time spent outdoors" can change the quality of the holidays without needing to go far. So I tried out the hammock sold for 550 yen at Daiso. Rather than using it for serious camping gear, it started from the curiosity of "What is a hammock like?"
There are many trees in my garden, and it seemed like an environment where I could hang a hammock if I tied some ropes. Spending holiday time swaying in a hammock must be quite enjoyable. After setting it up, I spent time napping and reading.

More compact than I imagined! "Is this a hammock?" in terms of size

The hammock is about 32×17 cm when stored. The moment I held it, I was a little surprised, thinking, "Is this a hammock?" When I imagined a hammock, I envisioned a large piece of fabric or heavy equipment, but the one from Daiso is about the size of a small bag. For someone touching a hammock for the first time, this compactness may be unexpected.

However, there are some points to note. Daiso's hammock has a weight limit of about 60 kg. It might be a bit strict for larger men. Therefore, this time, I enjoyed it in a relaxed style with only family members under 60 kg.

Hammock + rope, a simple set content

Daiso's hammock has a very simple content.

・Hammock body
・Storage case
・Rope (approximately 2m x 2 pieces)
The material is a blend of cotton, polyester, and rayon. Recently, many all-in-one hammock sets with complete carabiners and belts have been sold, but this one has only the bare essentials. For that reason, you may need to think a little creatively about where to set it up and how to tie it.

How to tie a hammock, even for beginners

First, use the included rope and secure it to a tree. Fold the rope in half and wrap it around the back of the tree. Next, pass the ends of the rope through the loop created by the folded rope. Just press the loop against the tree and tighten it, and it's secured. It's simple, but it can be fixed to the tree to some extent. Next is the task of connecting the rope to the hammock body.
First, pass the rope through the back side of the hammock loop. Once you pull the rope towards you, wrap it around to the back.
Next, take the rope you passed through and wrap it from the left side of the loop to the back, folding it in half to create an axis. After that, pass the axis through the rope hanging over the loop and firmly pull the hammock loop to secure it.
Fix the other side in the same way, and once you've confirmed it is taut by applying your weight, you're done. The process of tightening the rope may be a bit tedious, but once you get used to it, it's not a difficult task. As long as there's a certain distance between trees, you can set up the hammock more easily than you might think.

The first hammock experience feels like the breeze passing through the garden is more noticeable than usual.

When you actually sit in it, it feels a bit narrower than the hammocks with posts that I've seen before. Still, as you lean back, the fabric slowly sways.
The sound of leaves rustling and the presence of the wind passing through the garden felt closer than usual. Even though it’s the backyard, it feels like I’m playing outside.

Just by bringing a book and coffee, the holiday changes.

Sitting in the hammock, the children are swinging and playing. I brought a book and coffee and slowly read. It’s enjoyable even though I’m not in a special place.
In the backyard, I’m just swinging. Still, time flows differently than when sitting on a chair. There’s a sensation of being enveloped, and I naturally started to relax.

A new holiday with a garden that has a hammock.

What I felt when I tried it was that rather than the quality of the hammock, it's about what you can do when you have a hammock. Napping in the garden, reading a book, playing and rocking with your child—such moments naturally arise. Even without special outdoor activities, the way you spend time in the garden changes a little. The hammock might be a tool that becomes a small trigger for that.
