About "garage" that car enthusiasts aim for, I researched some basic things

It's often disappointing when it rains the day after washing your car, right? Or for those who want to try their hand at maintenance, having a garage would be nice... Many people may have the aspiration to enjoy "garage time." I investigated some basic aspects of such garages.

What is a garage that every man dreams of at least once?

A garage is an enclosed structure surrounded by walls except for the entrance and exit. Unlike a roofed carport, it is constructed by submitting a building confirmation application, which incurs "property tax." There are also built-in garages incorporated as part of the residence, and there are styles that are closely integrated with vehicles.

What is the market price for building a garage?

The cost for an independent garage for one car is said to be between 1 to 3 million yen. There are variations based on area, ceiling height, and whether there are ventilation fans. Built-in garages are estimated at 500,000 to 800,000 yen per tsubo, and the costs seem to vary depending on the house being built. The market price might be above the vehicle price of the car you want to put in.

Let's take a look at the sales models.

The ideal garage is Inaba's “Alcia”

First up is Inaba's “Alcia” (ARCIA). With a sleek metallic finish based on aluminum, it gives a tidy impression and comes in three grades: “Type-A to C”. Each grade is equipped with a remote control shutter, a roof with condensation-reducing materials, and a frame door. The higher-end models feature well-ventilated louver ceilings and indoor exhaust fans, making it easier to maintain a good indoor environment.

From my research, the basic model Type-A (TypeA general type DR-3157HPA), which is cost-effective, starts at a price of 1.65 million yen. The highest-end Type-C model, which has a louver ceiling and inner walls throughout the storage, is sold from 2,185,700 yen. There is a wider price range depending on the high roof and two-car types, as well as additional options such as foundation, construction costs, and transportation fees, so it would be good for interested people to request a quote.

For those who want to enjoy a garage life, a built-in garage that allows for space creation with their beloved car from the design stage of the house is a dream. The "SS Series" of built-in garage houses sold by Kinoshita Construction is designed through planning that matches the site, allowing progress in building the house while receiving advice. It might be easy to introduce even if one has little knowledge about built-in garages.

As a basic structure, the appeal lies in the garage accessible from the porch and indoors, ensuring space for two vehicles to park. It is envisioned as a spacious garage that can be used not only for parking cars but also for maintaining motorcycles and outdoor gear, serving as a hobby space, making it truly a dream home. For car enthusiasts, it evokes an image of the most luxurious lifestyle of obtaining time and space for maintenance.

For a stylish carport, there's Sankyo Alumi's "FⅡ-RW."

I also looked into carports, which are more convenient than garages. The model is Sankyo Aluminum's "FⅡ-RW (both-side support type)," which is a four-post type supported on both sides instead of just one. While insisting on a flat roof, it securely ensures drainage, and offers color variations like wood grain and black, designed with consideration for compatibility with residential buildings.

It is also possible to install dotless line lighting exclusive to the both-side support type, creating an atmosphere rich in luxury. The price starts from 1,173,300 yen (for the basic type for two vehicles), which can be kept lower compared to a garage.

Both a dream garage and a practical carport are attractive.

When it comes to building a garage, cost issues and land area become concerns. Not only is building from scratch costly, but even used properties continue to soar in price. On the other hand, carports are easier to build in line with existing parking spaces and are more cost-effective. It has become clear that the choice between the two is greatly influenced by the type of housing and individual preferences. I don't know when it will be, but I wish to have an ideal space for my beloved car.
