Tuna and grilled meat at a fruit and vegetable market in Sagamihara, Kanagawa!? I had the great value "mixed bowl with grilled meat."<

I drove to the Sagami Central Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market. There stood "Shokujidokoro Zen." Despite being a fruit and vegetable market, it offers a combination of fresh tuna and grilled meat. I tried a set meal at this cafeteria loved by food professionals in the market, and the prices were very reasonable.

I came to the Sagami Central Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market, which is open to the general public

located in Midori Ward, Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a market used by professional chefs and greengrocers, but it is also accessible for the general public to shop.

Not only can you get a glimpse of a market you wouldn’t usually visit, but there is also the thrill of finding a bargain.
Since I visited around lunchtime, the market was quiet and calm, having passed its peak trading time. However, forklifts and other equipment lined up inside, telling the story of the lively early morning atmosphere.

The market is located at the end of this narrow road. When I first came here, I was a bit hesitant, wondering, "Is it really okay for the general public to enter...?" but rest assured. Let’s confidently move forward.
While I'm here, I also did some shopping. Among the seasonal ingredients, I picked up oranges and lotus root. Both looked delicious, but can you believe they were only 200 yen altogether! I felt the excitement of discovering a hidden treasure.

When I returned home and tried them right away, both were definitely delicious and I was very satisfied.

I was recommended to the eatery "Shokujidokoro Zen" by the market professionals.

I was hungry, so I boldly asked a nearby employee for gourmet recommendations, and they introduced me to "Shokujidokoro Zen." It seems to be a diner frequented by people working in the market.

As I followed the directions I was given, I made a discovery! This seems to be a hidden gem that general customers usually wouldn't find.
A modest sign reading "Zen" is displayed, creating a cozy atmosphere. Upon entering the restaurant, I was warmly welcomed by a friendly owner with a lovely smile. Not only were there people involved with the market, but also regular folks like me, creating a comfortable ambiance inside.

The dream combination of tuna and grilled meat at a reasonable price

What surprised me when I sat down was the extensive selection of menus. In addition to the dishes listed on the table's menu, there were also posters on the walls showcasing ramen, curry rice, fried rice, and more. It seems these many menu items have been satisfying the appetites of market people.

And what shocked me the most was the unbelievably reasonable prices for every dish. This time, I ordered the popular "tuna bowl and grilled meat" (1030 yen) that many people were eating. Even though it’s a shop in a produce market, I was surprised to see seafood options like "tuna" on the menu.
After waiting for a little while, the "tuna sashimi bowl and grilled meat" arrived.

Wow! The volume exceeded my expectations. Given the name "tuna sashimi bowl" and the low price, I thought it would only have lean tuna, but it came topped with red tuna, medium-fat tuna, and negitoro, making it a luxurious bowl.

Upon tasting it, each component was fresh and rich in flavor. Wow, it was worth the trip to the market just for this.
Now, I will also try the long-awaited grilled meat. It was generously coated in a sweet sauce, making it perfect to eat with rice. When I indulge in seafood, I often crave the strong flavor of meat. After enjoying the fresh tuna, I devoured this grilled meat...

This dreamlike combination perfectly fulfilled my desires and was the ultimate duo.

"Shokujidokoro Zen" is located within the Sagami Central Fruit and Vegetable Market, and its business hours are from 5:30 AM to 1 PM. Please note that it is closed on Sundays and holidays, so be careful when planning your visit.
