【Day Trip Tourism】Touring popular "Enoshima Gourmet" and hidden spots loved by locals

I went with a friend who knows Enoshima like the back of their hand! Even though Enoshima was crowded on a weekday, this time we visited the recommended restaurants and hidden spots that my friend suggested in the shortest route possible.

Charging into the popular spot, Enoshima.

I went to the popular spot Enoshima with a friend who lives in Kanagawa Prefecture. Although it was a weekday, I was surprised by the larger-than-expected number of tourists. When I spoke to the shopkeeper at the souvenir store, they said that on weekends, it often gets so crowded that you can't move at all.
Perhaps because it's a weekday, there are a few shops with their shutters down. However, the famous shops on Benzaiten Nakamise Street are open, so it seems we can enjoy Enoshima.

Classic popular snack: grilled octopus rice crackers.

The first thing I ate at Enoshima was the "grilled octopus rice cracker" (500 yen), which was also chosen as one of the "100 famous products of Kanagawa." It's a rice cracker made by pressing 2 to 3 fresh octopuses directly. There were already about 10 groups in line for this popular snack, and the staff told me, "Today it's not too crowded."
After waiting for about 10 minutes, I was able to grab a freshly made grilled octopus rice cracker. It's a classic local gourmet dish, and the umami of the octopus is packed in, and it's indeed delicious!

Once you've enjoyed the grilled octopus rice cracker, let's head towards the next destination by continuing along Benzaiten Nakamise Street. When you see the red torii gate of Enoshima Shrine, turn right.
Suddenly, there were fewer people, and a quiet path appeared. Since I’m not good with crowds, it’s somehow reassuring.

After walking for about 10 minutes while admiring the beautiful scenery, I arrived at my destination this time, Yuuran-tei. There were many customers in front of the store, but since I had made a reservation in advance, I was able to enter smoothly.

Oh! What a luxurious prime seat this is. I can have the Shonan coastline and the ocean view all to myself. A spacious area without window glass spreads out, allowing me to feel the pleasant sea breeze. It was a bit cloudy, but the temperature that day was around 20 degrees, making the climate perfect.
I ordered the "Grilled Horse Mackerel and Boiled Shirasu Rice Bowl" (1250 yen). Unfortunately, the raw shirasu was sold out, but there was much more shirasu than I had imagined as a topping, making it a remarkably luxurious bowl.

As soon as I took a bite, the deliciousness of the firm horse mackerel and the light saltiness of the boiled shirasu created a wonderful harmony. To be able to enjoy such a luxurious bowl while admiring the fantastic view is a moment of bliss.

A hidden beach with few tourists.

Since my stomach was満たされた, let's go to the hidden spot that my friend found the other day. The bronze torii gate near the entrance of Enoshima Island is the landmark. If you turn right here, go straight ahead.
Then, I could see the ocean. As I went down the stairs, a sandy beach spread out right beside me, creating a surprisingly quiet space that felt like it was far from Enoshima. This might indeed be a hidden gem.
It seemed possible to go down to the beach, but since I was wearing sneakers, I relaxed by sitting on the stairs and listening to the sound of the waves this time. Unfortunately, the sky was cloudy that day, but I heard that if it were clear, you could see Mount Fuji!

I want to see Mount Fuji next time. Thanks to my friend, I was able to fully enjoy both gourmet food and stunning views, making it a day where I discovered a completely different charm of Enoshima. Thank you!
