【Tried It】 Family's park chill time experience with "Doritos Locos" eaten straight from the bag.
"Drilokos," which turns a bag of Doritos into a serving bowl, is a hot topic on social media like SNS. We attempted this way of eating, which we've never tried before, on a day we went out to the park with family.
What are Dorilocos, which originated in Mexico?
Dorilocos are snacks that involve mixing vegetables, meat, sauce, and other ingredients directly into a bag of Doritos. It is said to be a B-grade gourmet food originating from Mexico, and the name is a combination of "Doritos" and "locos," which means crazy in Spanish.
The "Dorilocos" I happened to notice while browsing social media on my smartphone looked truly delicious. The idea of cutting open a bag of Doritos to use it as a bowl and stuffing it with various ingredients immediately struck me as "this looks interesting." If used instead of a bento, there would be no need for dishes and no washing up. I thought it would be just right for relaxing in the park at that time, so I decided to give it a try the following weekend.
Preparation the day before was just an extension of my usual dinner
For the ingredients, I just sautéed ground pork in a crumble style and chopped lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and cheese, packing them into a container in the evening the day before. It's simple, with just enough effort to be done alongside preparing dinner.
I will bring store-bought salsa sauce in addition to the ingredients, but since there is a risk of it breaking if I take it in the bottle, I will transfer it to a Tupperware.
I will wrap the plastic containers together with a furoshiki and pack them into a cooler bag, and then I will be ready. I plan to bring just one bag of Doritos Mexican Tacos flavor and share one bag with my son while eating.
After playing, I will simply open the bag and mix it.
After arriving at the park and playing catch and running around for a while, I will sit down on a bench with my sweaty body. I will spread my belongings out, first opening the top of the Doritos bag and shaping it into a square container-like form.
The silver interior of the bag reflects the sunlight, looking better than I expected.
First, I put in the ground pork, and then layered the salsa sauce, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and cheese in order. In short, I just added ingredients to the bag of Doritos.
Finally, I lightly pinched the top of the bag and shook it, then mixed everything together with chopsticks to complete it. My son was peeking in next to me as the contents gradually changed color.
With the lunch in the bag being eaten with chopsticks, my son gasped and said, "Delicious."
I stuck chopsticks into the finished Dorilocos and ate it just like that. From the crispy texture of the chips, the savory taste of the ground meat, the crunch of the vegetables, and the tanginess of the salsa all rushed in at once, providing just the right stimulation for our warmed-up bodies after playing.
We each used our chopsticks alternately to eat from the same bag. My son, trying to reach the ingredients at the bottom of the bag with his unaccustomed chopstick skills, tilted the bag and peered inside. Watching him, I scooped a bite with my chopsticks and fed it to him, and he said, wide-eyed, "Delicious."
Sharing a single bag to eat from is, in its own way, not a bad time at all.
The Doritos Locos have made park lunches a little more enjoyable.
What remains after eating are just the empty bag of Doritos and the empty Tupperware that held the ingredients. There’s no hassle of washing plates on-site; you simply gather the empty containers in a furoshiki and take them home. This convenience felt refreshing for our tired bodies after playing.
When I actually tried it, it was a somewhat fun experience, and I discovered a new option for our usual park lunch with the thought of "I didn’t know there was this choice." Next time we head to the park as a family, I want to try different combinations of ingredients for more Doritos Locos.
