【Local Recommendations】A Must-Visit! Sagamihara "Sweet Eggs" Tamago Kake Gohan
I went all the way to Sagamihara to eat my favorite Tamago Kake Gohan. The rich eggs at "Sweet Eggs," loved by locals, are so delicious they are unforgettable! Moreover, if you're going anyway, here are some recommended spots to stop by in Sagamihara!
The rich flavor of the egg over rice that I can’t forget

The egg over rice I had at my friend's house was unusually delicious. The richness of the egg that spread in my mouth had a deep and refined taste. Even after a week, I couldn’t forget that flavor, so when I asked where the eggs were from, they told me, "The eggs from Sweet eggs in Sagamihara." I often buy pudding there, but I had never bought their eggs. I never imagined they sold such delicious eggs.
So, I went to “Ogawa Phoenix Sweet eggs” in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Before heading out, I did a little research and found out that the egg over rice served in the attached café comes with two eggs. Moreover, they also offer free refills on the eggs! I had to try it in the store.

"Trying the egg over rice"
As soon as I entered the store... I found a notice at the entrance saying, "The free boiled eggs have run out." At Sweet eggs, you receive a free boiled egg when you dine or shop at the café, but on this day, the distribution had ended. It seems like it's better to go a little earlier.
"Wait, the purpose of this visit is the egg over rice!" I gathered my spirits and headed towards the café located deep inside the store.

Inside the cafe, there were many female customers. I had assumed that everyone was enjoying their tamago kake gohan, but surprisingly, I also discovered people eating omelets and egg sandwiches. However, there seemed to be some, like myself, who came specifically for the tamago kake gohan, and I also spotted some people quietly enjoying their meal.
Since it’s a style where you secure a seat first, you can take your time sitting down and checking the menu. However, with a firm resolve to eat tamago kake gohan, I headed straight to the register to place my order!

After sitting and waiting a little, it arrived in no time. This time, since I was hungry, I ordered the "tamago kake gohan" in a large size. Additionally, I ordered "tsuke shirasu," which seemed like it would elevate the tamago kake gohan.<

The "tamago kake shoyu" made by Inoue Soy Sauce, an established soy sauce manufacturer founded in 1875, also came with it. I heard it's a product original to Ogawa Phoenix!

The recommended way to eat it, as noted on the menu, is to "top the first egg with a whole egg as usual. For the second egg, just top it with the yolk." Finally, if you like, drizzle the original soy sauce twice, and you're done.

Since I was using double the usual egg yolks, it was yellow. No, this is practically orange. When I tried it, the richness of the egg was indeed amazing! It was richer and punchier than what I had at a friend's house. I thought I might have put on too much soy sauce, but the richness of the egg overpowered the soy sauce.

And here, marinated shirasu is also in! Compared to the previous rice with raw egg, the umami explodes. I impulsively ordered the marinated shirasu topping at the register, and it was a great decision. At that moment, I praised my judgment.

With my stomach satisfied, I concluded with "raw pudding." The pudding here is also rich and delicious. Starting with rice and raw egg, and wrapping up with rich pudding, I was able to enjoy a blissful egg full course.
If I'm going anyway, I might as well visit a hidden spot with a view of the Sagami River

The place I occasionally stop by with my beloved dog is the "Sandan Falls Observation Square" in Minami-ku, Sagamihara City. It's a short walk from JR Shimomizo Station, offers a magnificent view of the Sagami River, and the square at the bottom of the stairs is where my dog can run around energetically.

Especially on weekdays, there are fewer people, so it's a hidden gem where you can relax while listening to the gentle flow of the Sagami River.
A very popular spot that attracts people even late at night, where you can enjoy retro vending machines

"Used Tire Market Sagamihara Store," which is always bustling no matter when you visit. If you're in the Sagamihara area, this is a must-visit spot! There are rows of vending machines that evoke a nostalgic Showa retro feel, which you rarely see in everyday life. The menu is also quite unique, featuring soba and hamburgers, as well as nostalgic juices and snacks.

By the way, this is a vending machine selling Mitsubishi batteries. It's overall rusty, but it has touches of blue paint here and there, allowing us to imagine its original appearance. With the increase in rechargeable devices nowadays, we don't use dry batteries as much as we used to, but it reminds me of the times when we used them for cassette players and Game Boys.
